Even though we had a stormy night last night it did not help cool down the temperatures today, with the heat index reaching past one hundred degrees. So staying hydrated was of the utmost importance throughout the day. To stay hydrated many people chose different routes from camelbacks to drinking fountains and the good old water bottle. In order to insure that all the kids in Scoutcraft Valley stayed hydrated today every fifteen minutes the area director would walk out and propose a toast to whatever popped into his head at the time and then everyone would cheer and take a drink of water, this way the drink water and its fun.

I spent a large portion of today down in Scoutcraft Valley where all of the campers were having fun and learning important scouting skills. The typical day down there begins with the First Class Trail classes and their opening. The opening consists of a form up and a flag raising, also at this point is when the campers are divided into patrols and they decide on both a patrol name and yell. Next each patrol begins on a different activity and throughout the week they make a rotation. Some of the places that they go are to the Nature Lodge, rifle range, archery range, and pool. Being able to visit the different areas allows the new campers to learn more about Camp and to work towards their first class requirements. To end the day for the first years they once again form up next to their flag pole and have a closing. After lunch there is no longer first year program but instead various merit badges are taught such as orienteering, cooking, first aid, camping, wilderness survival, and fish and wild life management. There is also an activity that goes on throughout the day and that is mountain bordering.
As another post of the Camper Geiger Blog draws to a close I would like to encourage you to continue to check back frequently. Many fun and exciting thing occur here at Camp Geiger on a daily basis, it would be a shame to miss any of it by not staying up to date.
