Row, Row, Row Your Boat

Today has been another beautiful day at Camp Geiger and a welcome relief from the beginning of the week. Aside from a few clouds throughout the day the weather remained rather mild with the temperature staying in the eighties. The timing for this cool down could not have been better considering all of the things that take place on Wednesday. In most classes the first two days are spent with introductions and safety talks which means that by Wednesday the real fun is able to begin such as on the shotgun range today is the first day that they begin shooting, also in Mountain Boarding today is when they are finally able to start going down the easy hills in order to work up to Friday when they ride down Cardiac Hill, the biggest hill on Camp.  Two other things that occur today that benefit from the cooler weather are the mile run in Personal Fitness and Family Night.

An area of Camp that tends to be forgotten about is the Water Front, also known as Lake Richardson. Next to areas like Handicraft and Nature the Water Front is one of the newest areas here and it is home to such Merit Badges as Canoeing and Rowing. The Lake is also stocked with fish so that the Fishing Merit Badge can use it for class at five thirty in the morning. In addition to the different species of fish it is also home to several turtles and beautiful water lilies that are currently blooming. Today the Canoeing class was working on how to get back into your canoe once it has capsized which also gave those working towards their BSA lifeguard certification additional experience. Other skills that they also work on throughout the week are the different strokes to be used, how to steer both a row boat and canoe, how to approach a dock, and comparing and contrasting different types of canoes. So next time you're out at Camp you should stop in at this fun area and give it the attention it deserves.

Now that we have reached the middle of the week the action is really picking up, especially for all Tribesman who know that the most exciting days of the week are yet to come. With that I would like to thank all of you that follow the Camp Geiger Blog and to encourage you to continue checking back and to spread the word to anyone you know that is interested in Camp or should be so that they too are able to see what we are all about here.
