Can't Rain On Our Parade

The day referred to by many as Mic-O-Say Day began rather cool and with a slight drizzle. Unfortunately it did not stay that way, as the day progressed it began to rain harder and harder until finally tapering off and quitting right before lunch. Although most classes went on as usual some where moved to a drier place. Aside from the aquatics Merit Badges the area that was effected the worst by the weather was the Handicraft area. The water flow in the corral got so bad at one point that the staff had to hurry and dig a drainage ditch in the downpour to help divert the flow of water. On the bright side though is the staff there can now say that their area has a moat. Luckily after lunch, when the rain had completely stopped, the sun finally came out, everything began to dry out, and all classes went back to normal.

This afternoon at the pool the campers were able to resume having classes in the water and they enjoyed every minute of it. During the time I was there three classes were going on at once swimming, life saving, and SCUBA. In the swimming Merit Badge they were inflating their clothes to use as life preservers. Right next to that was the life saving class which were working on the life saving techniques. In the Merit Badge there are four which are reach, row, throw and go, which is the one they were working on during the time I happened to be at the pool. The way go works is when there is a person standing on the side of the water holding a rope that is tied to another person who will then swim out at place the rope around a drowning individual. As for SCUBA they were working on inspecting their gear along with other pre-dive checks, once those were finished they were finally able to get all of the equipment on. Lastly lifeguard Dylan Klawuhn was working with the non swimmers by playing a game of water football in the shallow end to get them comfortable with the pool. On the other side of Camp today those at the archery range were trying extra hard to be sure to hit the target because if they missed today it meant walking through a lot of mud to get their arrow. From what I saw the extra motivation was a good thing because there were a lot of good shots. Next door to the archery range the rifle Merit Badge was having a little bit of fun on the range. They were taking a break from the boring paper targets and instead trying to hit paint balls and ammo boxes suspended between the targets.

To keep up with everything that is Camp Geiger this summer I encourage you to continue to follow the blog here at Camp Geiger Blogspot. Also since tonight is the Tapping Ceremony I would like to like to remind you to check back tomorrow when I announce who the Tapper was.
