The Squirrel That Chases Dogs

As I sit here and write this blog the smell of various delicious foods are floating through the air which can only mean one thing here at Camp Geiger, Family Night has arrived. All around Camp Scouts are busily tugging their parents around showing them the exciting things they have done so far this week, showing them the knife in the trading post that they so desperately want or sitting around a picnic table enjoying a meal together for the first time this week. Later they will be sitting around the council ring being entertained   by the always exciting staff skits and the troop skits.

Wednesday is also a fun day at the climbing tower because it is the first time that the kids in C.O.P.E. get to play on the wall. Although it was a windy day today and even windier up on the tower everyone over there was having alot of fun scaling the climbing wall, repelling, and riding the zip line. I was also able to watch a few groups participate in the flying squirrel activity. The way this activity works is that one person is in a full body harness that connects to a rope that then goes up to a pulley, on the other side of the rope is six people harnessed together. When the command is given the "squirrel" chases after the six "dogs" causing the "squirrel" to go flying through the air, this game was definitely a favorite of those in C.O.P.E. today.

Today is also the day that Personal Fitness has the mile run, the best time today was a blazing five minutes and fourty-five seconds. In other Eagle Area classes they were discussing important topics such as the impact of the Red Cross organization and different forms of government. Down in the more light hearted side of Camp, Scout Craft, the Mountain Boarding activity was having fun riding down the trading post hill towards the tapping fire. Also in the old archery range the wilderness survival class was learning how to make distress signals that can be seen from a helicopter. The Scouts positioned themselves on the ground to form different shapes such as an X and an H to form a helicopter landing zone.

As the night of Tapping draws closer I encourage everyone to read Friday's blog when I will announce who the Tapper was for second session. You can also continue to follow everything going on here at Camp Geiger Blogspot.
